Laundry Worker Severely Burned In Steam Pipe Rupture

A worker at a Southern Floyd County commercial laundry plant has received severe burns when a steam pipe exploded in the plant causing damage inside Wednesday Evening.

Rome Fire Engines 1 and 2 along with Rescue 1, Car 25 and Floyd EMS responded to reports of an injured worker at the Crothall Laundry Services facility located at 1800 Parrish Drive shortly before 8:00 pm. Firefighters arrived to find a worker had received severe burns when a steam pipe ruptured in the plant. The victim was transported to Floyd Medical Center and was conscious and alert when emergency personnel arrived.

According to radio traffic, the pipe rupture was strong enough to blow out a nearby wall. There were reportedly a total of 2 employees and a contractor in the plant at the time of the incident, and all were accounted for. The other people were not injured.

Firefighters remained on the scene as of 8:15 pm investigating and securing the scene. An investigator from the Rome Fire Marshal’s Office was also called for a routine investigation since someone received a burn injury.
