Ra-Lin Construction Company, general contractor for the Model High and Pepperell High projects, has donated $2,269.00 to McHenry Primary to complete the planned upgrade to the school’s playground. McHenry Primary recently won a $25,000 grant in an online Pepsi promotion called the Pepsi Challenge.
The school planned to use the grant to refurbish the school’s upper playground and make it handicapped accessible so that all children at the school could play. The grant from Pepsi left McHenry just short of the $27,269.00 needed to complete the playground renovation.
Ra-Lin became aware of McHenry’s quest during the community drive to secure the votes needed to get the $25,000 grant. The company posted on the Pepsi website that Ra-Lin would cover the difference to make the playground a reality. Ra-Lin made good on that pledge as Mike Waters, vice-president of Ra_Lin Construction, recently made a visit to McHenry to present a check to Penny Pryor.
McHenry entered their playground project in the Pepsi Refresh Project on the Internet at the end of last school year but did not make the finals. Penny Pryor, a teacher at McHenry, hopes to have the renovation and upgrade completed before the spring. Pryor started the grant search to improve physical fitness opportunities for all children at McHenry.
Jenni Cunningham, principal at McHenry was pleased to accept the generous donation by Ra-Lin. “This is awesome,” Cunningham said. “We appreciate Ra-Lin generating renewed enthusiasm in the voting with their post on the Pepsi website and for making this generous donation.”
